2010 State Champions

Tasmania Golf Club's Men's Division 1 Pennant team of Mark Schulze, Richard Kube, Andrew Phillips, Nathan Gatehouse, Paul Read, Stuart Bonnitcha and Craig Christie has won the State Pennant Final for the second year running.

The team defeated Devonport Golf Club in wet conditions at the tough Ulverstone GC "Allison" course on Sunday, 8 August 2010.

The Devonport GC team rearranged their lineup so that their leading players faced the lower half of the Tasmania Golf Club team and this resulted in predictably large wins to both Schulze and Gatehouse, together with a strong 5/4 win to Richard Kube.  This left Devonport needing 4 wins from 4 matches but Paul Read's performance in defeating Stuart Mathewson 5/3 ensured victory.

Of the remaining matches, Craig Christie lost 4/3 whilst Stuart Bonnitcha and Andrew Phillips' matches were declared halved, albeit incomplete, immediately the team result was achieved.

The State Final victory is a fitting result for a team that includes 4 members of the Tasmanian State representative team, has an average handicap of plus 1 and was clearly the dominant team in southern Tasmania during 2010.

Tasmania Golf Club
A World Class Experience

Bounded by water on three sides, the spectacular Tasmania Golf Club is set on the picturesque Barilla Bluff, just 15 minutes east of the Hobart CBD and only 2 minutes from the Hobart Airport.

The par 72, ACR 72.9, 6,214 metre course was designed by Al Howard and opened for play in 1971. The result is a challenging, undulating course characterised by well bunkered, breaking greens that reward well thought out approach shots.

Tasmania Golf Club has hosted many significant events including the Australian Amateur Championship and the Tasmanian Open. On many such occasions the course has proved more than equal to the best professional players.

Of course, Tasmania Golf Club is primarily used by the members lucky enough to be able to play here every day. The course is open for play all year round and is at it’s best in the late spring and autumn when the Tasmanian climate is well suited to a challenging day’s golf.

In addition to the outstanding golf course, Tasmania Golf Club is well serviced with a welcoming clubhouse comprising full locker room facilities, expansive bar and dining areas, an adjoining deck area overlooking the 18th green and a well stocked pro-shop.

Tasmania Golf Club is well suited to corporate events with ambrose team competitions proving extremely popular over many years due to their value in bringing people together and strengthening business relationships.
