Tasmania Golf Club has long been the dominant club in the state when it comes to Pennant competition and fields teams in Men’s Divisions 1 to 6, Women’s Pennant and Junior Pennant.
The Club has won the southern Men’s Pennant competition in Division 1 for the past 6 years and won the State Men’s Final in 2005, 2007 and again in 2009.
Club Championships are held in October each year and the Club holds a number of major Honour Board events during the year.
Tasmania Golf Club is home to golfers with a wide range of ability and experience, from the players on handicaps of 1 or less, right through to beginners, whether 6 year old juniors or mature adults discovering golf for the first time.
Member competitions are conducted on Saturday (male members only), Sunday, Tuesday (female members only), Wednesday, Thursday (female members only) and Friday (9 hole twilight in summer), but social golfers are generally able to access the course without too much difficulty.
Sunday competitions are extremely popular with members looking for something different with a novelty competition held on the last Sunday of each month. These include 3 club competitions, flag events, string events, 2 ball ambrose and red tee events. As well as being a lot of fun, these events encourage members and guests to enjoy the golf course in a slightly different way.
Junior development programs and competitions are conducted on Saturday afternoons and at various other times during the year. Tasmania Golf Club has a particularly proud tradition of developing young golfers from beginner level, through Junior Pennant, into Senior Pennant and then into senior amateur representative teams and into professional ranks.
Whilst it is true that Tasmania Golf Club offers a wide range of competitive opportunities for members including both stroke and matchplay Club Championships, perhaps the best thing about the Club is that members display a warmth and friendliness that other sporting clubs can only envy. Competitions are conducted in great spirit and the Club encourages golfers to regularly vary their playing group to meet a wide range of members.
