SCHOOLS TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP

Tasmania Golf Club is resurrecting the schools golf competition under the following format:

  • Competition to take place on Thursday evenings with play commencing at 4pm.

  • Season to be conducted in two parts being October to December (9 weeks) and February to March (5 weeks) to suit school attendance and daylight savings time.

  • Competition format to be Stableford scoring with the best 3 scores (from a maximum team of 6 golfers) to count as the team score for the week.

  • Competition will be conducted over 9 holes only each week although players would be welcome to complete 18 holes after they have submitted scorecards.  The competition will alternate over Tasmania Golf Club’s front 9 and back 9 at the Club’s discretion.

  • Competition open to both male and female golfers attending any Tasmanian school up to year 12.  (Final year students would be permitted to complete the roster commenced in October of their final year) Female golfers to play off forward tees, as would be normal for handicapping.

  • The Team Registration Fee would be $395 for the season.  No weekly fees would apply.  This means that, for a team of 6 golfers and a 14 week roster, the cost equates to just $4.70 per player per week or $28.21 per team per week.  This contrasts with the usual green fee for visiting junior golfers of $15 each player.
  • Schools may enter a minimum team of 3 golfers and may nominate up to 12 team members.  Competitors will be limited to 6 golfers per week (from which the best 3 scores will be used) but non-competitive team members are welcome to attend and play practice rounds after the competitive field has commenced play.  In addition, this will allow golfers without handicaps to post scores so that they obtain a handicap and can be competitive in future weeks.  In such cases, we will require 3 scores for a competition specific handicap but, in all cases, official Golf Australia handicaps will prevail.

  • Team scores for the season are calculated from the best 10 weeks for each school.  This means that a team that is unable to participate in one week due to other commitments is not overly disadvantaged compared to other schools.

  • Team uniforms are not required but are encouraged provided that they are consistent with normal golf attire.  Jeans will not be permitted and shirts are required to have a collar.  Golf shoes are highly desirable but not essential.

  • Each team will be requested to supply a nominated manager with some knowledge of the game and rules of golf but, most importantly, to co-ordinate team attendance.  Tasmania Golf Club will provide a nominated manager for each event who will also determine any rules disputes.

It is our hope that this event will result in an increased level of interest in golf at junior level and we invite you to consider forming a school golf team to participate in the 2009/10 Tasmania Schools Team Golf Championship.
